TIXE - Vancouver's Largest Escape Room

Last week my son and I were lucky to attend an event with the #YVRBloggers at Tixe – Vancouver’s newest and largest Escape Game, located in Richmond, BC.

What is an Escape Game?

An escape game is when you are locked into a room with a group of people and are given a story, a few clues, 1 hour and 2 hints. You need to work together as a team and figure out how to escape from the room before your 1 hour has expired.

We had never been to an Escape Game before so we were not sure what to expect. Here are some of the things that we enjoyed about our TIXE experience.

The Environment:

The first thing that you see when you walk into Tixe (well beside the bright red door) is the visually intriguing lobby with many different pieces to catch your eye. Our favourite was the piece on the ceiling, my son spent quite some time trying to figure out the pattern of the umbrella in the sky. While you are waiting for your challenge to begin you can sit with your friends and chat, play board games or play darts.

The Lounge:

They have built a very comfortable area for their guest to come and relax and reconnect with their peers before they go into the challenge and a great place to sit and debrief. They also have a small snack bar that you can enjoy assorted snacks or a scoop of gelato.

The Rooms:

Tixe has 4 different Escape Rooms with over 9000 square feet of space to explore. We got to experience 2 different rooms, Exile District and Time Shrine. These rooms were so much fun and extremely challenging, we had a group of 10 people and we did not escape. This really is an amazing team building challenge! The time just flies by before you know it the hour is up.

If you are looking for an original team building activity for your employees, a place to have a birthday party, or just to unplug and reconnect with your friends/family this is the place to be. I know that we will be back to try to figure our way out of those rooms!

Springing Into a Healthier, Happier Daily Routine

Phew! We made it through another whirlwind winter. Days filled with heavy holiday meals, rich desserts and Valentine’s sweets – followed swiftly by a bombardment of Easter treats from well-meaning grandparents – left me feeling a bit deflated over the last few months. But as the weather warms and the pile of chocolate eggs dwindles, I find myself feeling excited and inspired to get back into some better eating habits and a more active routine!

Here are some simple steps my family is taking towards a healthier, happier daily routine this spring.

Choosing alternative modes of transportation: When my husband is at work I often ride the bus with my girls. With the warmer, drier weather we are scooting, walking or biking to our destination whenever the opportunity arises.

Eating healthier treats: Now that we’ve got a break from the chocolate-centric holidays, it seems the perfect time to make a move away from refined sugar. With a wide range of produce coming into season we will replace candy with sweet fruits like watermelon, berries, and apricots.

Re-establishing a regular bedtime: The bedtime routine fell apart for us over the holidays and we never quite recovered. This spring we are slowly working our way back into an earlier bedtime and wake up time to allow for less rushed mornings.

Supplementing our diet with vitamins: I recently learned that Honibe offers multi-vitamins for the whole family. Each one contains a complete day’s worth of vitamins and minerals, which makes it much easier to remember to take them than previous (take one with each meal) brands we’ve tried. The all-natural, melt-your-mouth gummies are sweetened with 100% Canadian honey and contain 50% less refined sugar too!  They contain no gluten, dairy, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Win a One Year Supply of Honibe Honey Gummies

Honibe was kind enough to provide our family with some samples of their multi-vitamins to try out, but they want to give one of our readers a whole year’s supply of gummy goodness! Enter below for your chance to win.

Open to residents of Canada, excluding Quebec.

The Oxford Stories Book Blast

Boxford Stories
The Boxford Stories
by Kristen Carson

It’s the 1970s in Maryland. The Runyons and the Feldsteds are two Mormon families who are far from their Western American roots, and they cling to each other like exiles clutching a precious box of topsoil from the old country. Ada Runyon always turns to Ruthalin Feldsted when she needs an ear—but Ada dies inside whenever Ruthalin’s country-cousin manners poke out in public. Latham Runyon and Erval Feldsted bond every Sunday night over gooey desserts and vigorous religious discussion, a game their children call Stump the Rabbi. Underneath their balding heads and graying temples, each man desperately seeks a sign that God would choose him as a friend. The children of both families run breathlessly through each other’s houses and backyards, considering each other like family. But Ginni Runyon plots to change herself from the girl next door to the girl Marc Feldsted can’t live without.

When Boxford’s Mormons mix with the rest of the town, everybody could use a field guide to the other species.Laugh, cry, and shake your head with the Runyons and Feldsteds as they make their way through the decade that brought us leisure suits and urban decay.

Now Latham stood before the steam-clouded mirror. He squirted shaving cream into his hand and swabbed it over his face.
It was not the best face, to be sure. He imagined how it would look to those sitting beside him in conference tomorrow. There he’d be, his arms folded as he sat on a hard metal chair way at the back of the gym, looking for all the world like Joe Mormon, with the standard white shirt, the standard wing tips, the standard bald spot, and the standard case of scriptures with a sagging, broken spine.
The young fathers nearby would look at him and think, I hope I don’t become that in twenty years. Their young wives would study his pocked cheeks and try to imagine just how bad the teenage acne had been. And teenage girls would decide that he was, no doubt, ten times cornier than their own dads. . . .
Then, when his name echoed forth from the pulpit, and he stood up, his seat-neighbors would look up from their chairs, surprised. They would kick themselves mentally for not taking note of him sooner, for not recognizing his eminence.
His children would look up. Our dad? God wants our dad?
His wife would bow her head humbly and compose a few eloquent remarks, in case they summoned wives to speak.
And as he walked up to take his new place, people would look up from their seats, squinting at him. And when he reached the stand, Elder Sperry would smile, remembering: Oh, yes, him. The one that likes Great Biographies, just like me. Elder Sperry would shake his hand, motion him towards his very own theatre-style seat, a far cry from the metal chairs at the back. Elder Sperry would make him say a few words at the pulpit, where Latham could look down on all those surprised people, who were still taking it in that Latham Runyon was their new stake president.
