Growing up I always wanted to go to Disney on Ice but I never had the chance. So when the chance came up that I would be able to go to opening night show of Disney on Ice Frozen at the Pacific Colosseum with my daughter, I was super excited. Since this would be my daughter Nicole’s first time to a big event, I decided to keep it a secret as any sane person who has an excitable 4 1/2 year old would do. Well, unless you want to be asked multiple times per day for almost 2 months. No thank you.
A few days before the show, I decided to tell Nicole that I had a surprise for her and that we were going to go somewhere special but she wasn’t allowed to know where until we got there. Being her normal self, she tried her hardest to get me to divulge that we were going to Disney on Ice Frozen. This mom held her ground and kept the special surprise secret until the day of the event.
That’s when the real fun began. I had to work the day of the event. After work, I told Nicole that we had one stop to make before going to her special surprise. I told her that where we were going would be a clue to what the special surprise was. So off to the Disney Store we went. I told Nicole she was allowed to pick out one thing Frozen and that it was her clue to where we were going after the Disney Store. Well Nicole, being Nicole, wanted everything else in the store other than the Frozen items. After some time, I was able to convince her to get a Frozen figurine set. As you can tell, my daughter is the biggest Frozen fan out there. Now I was a little worried about how she would react when we she finally learned that her special surprise was Disney on Ice Frozen.
We get to the Pacific Colosseum and while waiting to get parking, Nicole says “Mommy, there are a lot of little girls wearing Elsa dresses”. Yes, Nicole there are. That’s another clue to where we are going. Finally, Nicole clues into what her special surprise is as I buy her the Program. That’s when her excitement level got even higher. She was bouncing up and down.
We get to our seat and the show begins. I won’t spill all the details as the show runs from Wednesday, November 25, 2015 to Sunday, November 29, 2015 (tickets are still available through Ticketmaster). Thankfully, we are at a show geared towards a younger audience because if we were not, the people around us might not have been so understanding about all the jumping, squealing, laughing and talking that came from Nicole for the entire show.
From all your Mickey and Minnie and all your other favourite Disney characters to how well they were able to translate the story of Frozen from the movie to a live theatrical show on ice, Disney on Ice Frozen does not disappoint. The reaction the show was able to get from Nicole made the experience that much better for me. I had my doubts going into the show, if the Frozen portion of the show would be able to hold Nicole’s attention but I’m glad to say that I was proven wrong there.
After the show, I tried to find out what Nicole thought of her special surprise. She said her favourite part was the whole thing. Upon further prodding she stated “The ending was the best part. It was so dramatic! I know the people are just actors and that the marshmallow guy was just a blow up, but they did a good job. They were almost like the real thing in the movie.”
Well there you go. From the mouth of a 4 1/2 year old. There is nothing she did not like about the show. It is definitely an experience I would like to repeat with her!
