Kempower's New Charger Bridges Cars and Heavy-Duty Trucks

Kempower has introduced a charging unit built to solve one of the electric vehicle industry's most expensive problems: the fact that cars and heavy trucks currently need separate infrastructure to charge. The Finnish company's new Mega Satellite Flex supports both the established CCS standard, at up to 560 kW, and the emerging Megawatt Charging System, at up to 1.2 MW, from a single dispenser. The timing reflects a genuine fork in the road for charging technology. What the Hardware Actually Delivers

The technical specifications point to a unit designed for high throughput. The Mega Satellite Flex handles up to 1,500 amps on the MCS side and 700 amps for CCS, with cable lengths of 5 meters for CCS connections and 2.7 meters for MCS. That amperage range matters because it directly affects how quickly a vehicle's battery can absorb energy, particularly for newer 800-volt electric vehicles, which are engineered to take advantage of higher charging speeds than older 400-volt platforms. Compatibility with Kempower's existing distributed charging architecture is another point the company emphasizes. Why the Dual-Standard Bet Matters

The broader significance lies in what this signals about the charging industry's direction. MCS is still in its early rollout phase, while CCS infrastructure is mature and widespread. A charger that serves both hedges against uncertainty: as truck fleets electrify over the coming years, demand for megawatt charging will grow, but car traffic on CCS will not disappear anytime soon. Operators who invest in flexible hardware now avoid betting the wrong way on which standard will need more capacity at a given site.

Kempower unveiled the Mega Satellite Flex at its Unplug & Recharge event held alongside ACT Expo, where the unit remains on display this week. The company expects the product to reach the North American and European markets in July 2026, giving fleet operators and charging network developers roughly a year to plan deployments around it.
